We’re a family business. For us, the people we meet in this business are part of that family.
We work within our customers’ means—with all different styles and sizes of operations, through cash flows and droughts, as the industry changes, no matter what.
Our idea of success is when the decisions you make with us lead to profit for you. Whether that means setting you up with a trusted livestock nutritionist, visiting your operations to see how they run, or simply providing you with our Sales Calculator to make the math easier.
(Dan’s grandfather could run the formulas in his head. The rest of us, not so much.)
We love what we do. We’re at the sale barn every day, and we’re always happy to get on the phone and provide information and numbers, advice, or referrals. Let us know what you want—we’re here to help you make it happen.
To build honest relationships that last not for a week, but for life.
To meet our people where they are. To help you prosper and succeed.
To provide what you need to make informed, profitable decisions every time you come to Blue Earth.
We (Dan and Leah) founded Blue Earth in April 2014, but our family’s history with the sale barn runs longer than that. When Dan was four years old, his grandfather took him to Blue Earth Stockyard—it was the first sale barn he ever visited. Fast forward a few years, it was the first sale barn our kids visited. We used to operate a feedlot, so on Fridays Dan would drive to Lanesboro for business, and Leah would take the kids to Blue Earth. They got one pop and one candy bar each, which was very exciting for them—and Leah got to know everyone at the barn, which was how she fell in love with the peace, simplicity, and satisfaction of sale barn work.
Now Blue Earth isn’t just our livelihood—it’s an integral part of our family lives. Out of twelve employees, seven are family members. (But really, we’re all family where it counts.) We love teaching our kids the value of hands-on work and watching them learn the life lessons of the barn. Such as: If that steer in the corner seems huffy, don’t make it worse. And equally important: Your people are what make you, so treat them well.
We know the livestock industry is changing. New technologies, new styles of contract and operation—wherever the industry goes, we’ll be there at the cutting-edge. Adapting for longevity and passing it on to you.
We hope to see you at the Sale Barn!
